Jeff Walton Design Process | Identity design processMy design process includes a number of steps to insure that I am informed about your needs in brand development, and that you are completely satisfied with the finished design. I begin each project as a brand new approach. If you hire me to help you develop or freshen up your brand identity, you can expect no less than the following. Initial evaluation I like to start each project with a simple discussion with you about where you currently stand, and more important, where you would like to be. Whether you have a start-up business planned, or you have been operating for 30 years, I can offer advice on how to get your brand identity on track to move forward. Detailed estimate After an initial evaluation of what your project might need, I will work up a detailed estimate that will outline the needs discussed, and a timeline that can be expected to successfully complete your project. Educated research Upon agreement of your estimate, I begin a process of thoroughly collecting and researching other branding, identity and marketing initiatives in your particular industry. Combining this research with my years of experience in brand development, I will help you analyze what is needed to help you brand your business in the most effective way. Graphic studies Based on the analysis and comparison of your brand and the industry as a whole, I will begin sketches and graphic studies for your company. I will generally present you with three separate conceptual approaches and explain in detail the positives of each proposed concept. At this point, I would like for you to take some time to go over these approaches with your partners and colleagues. Design execution After we agree on a concept, I begin the process of fleshing out the design as a whole. This includes the thorough follow through of how your brand is represented in all media. How your logo is to be used on stationery materials, digital media, packaging, signage, etc. Final delivery Once your identity is completed, I will supply you with a "brand standards" pamphlet that diagrams how your mark should be used in all media to insure consistency throughout. In addition to the brand standards, you will receive digital files in all necessary formats for your use. If necessary, this step of the process will include file preparation and/or transfer to a professional printing company for final production.
